See How 1000+ Parents & Students Exercised the Power of Their Collective Voice

In the fall, more than 1000 parents, students, and community members gathered virtually with public officials for the 7th annual United Parents and Students Assembly, Together We Rise: A Vision for Change. The virtual assembly was a space for community members to address top Los Angeles elected officials on the issues that affect quality of life for children and families.

Together they made demands for change in key areas such as housing protection, food justice, violence prevention, and digital equity to : Mayor Eric Garcetti, County Supervisor Hilda Solis, LAPD Chief Michel Moore, Council President Nury Martinez, and Senator Lena Gonzalez. The coalition of parents and students are leveraging the power built at the assembly to drive change at local and state levels.

Green Dot’s partnership with UPAS is one of the many ways our schools meaningfully engage students and families and support them in creating the change they want to see in their communities. Historically, Green Dot had sponsored parent workshops and other community based initiatives; over time, families and Green Dot founded an independent non-profit organization to advance broad based community-driven change.
