Second Annual Ánimo Cup Soccer Tournament Turns Out Two School Winners
This spring, Green Dot middle school and high school students competed in the second annual Ánimo Cup, an intramural soccer tournament for teams in our network. In the middle school division, Ánimo Ellen Ochoa Charter Middle School (AEO) won against Ánimo Phillis Wheatley Charter Middle School with a score of 2-0 to place first in the middle school tournament. Oscar De La Hoya Ánimo Charter High School defeated Ánimo Leadership Charter High School with a score of 5-2, earning first place in the high school division.
The Ánimo Cup was created as a way to ensure that all Green Dot students have the opportunity to participate in intramural sports regardless of their household incomes. For the students and families we serve, participation in sports and athletics can often be difficult due to the high costs of registration fees, club dues, uniforms, equipment, and travel costs. Because of funding through the state-sponsored After School Education and Safety (ASES) program, we are able to offer additional academic and extracurricular opportunities like the Ánimo Cup at no cost to our families.
Across the Green Dot network, we have worked to embed an investment in education throughout our extracurricular opportunities and athletics programs, helping students become sound in both mind and body. We are proud of our students’ passion and sportsmanship and commend their efforts in the Ánimo Cup.
