School Lottery Form: The Ticket to Your Child’s Future
“The Road to College Starts Here” — this phrase is emblazoned across the top of each classroom door at Green Dot schools across our network. We do this to remind each student that their daily activities and work in the classroom are directly related to their future success in college, leadership, and life. These little signs represent a very big opportunity we hope to extend to every student in the communities we serve.
Sometimes, though, we have more interest in our schools than available seats. In this case, lotteries must be conducted to ensure equitable access to all those interested in enrolling — this year the deadline for lottery forms is 4pm on November 29, 2016. School lotteries are held in December, and the first step to ensuring that your family and student have high quality public options is to fill out a lottery form today.
For so many families in our communities, one barrier to achievement, is awareness of the public school choices. Knowing about the great public school options in your neighborhood can take a lot of work, and many parents devote hours to attending open houses and information sessions to find a school that is the right fit for their child.
Open to all
Regardless of your child’s needs, there is a place for you at a Green Dot school: our public schools are free and open to all students. In our network of schools, all means all — students with special needs, students who are learning English, students who need to catch up, and students who excel are all equally welcome to learn and grow at one of our excellent schools.
If you know a 5th grader or an 8th grader who are considering their options for the 2017-2018 school year, urge them to learn about a Green Dot school in their neighborhood. The school lottery system is used throughout our schools in Los Angeles, CA and Tacoma, WA. The first Green Dot school opened 16 years ago, and since then we have grown to serve more than 13,000 students across LA and Tacoma — each and every one of them pursuing their hopes and dreams for the future with the necessary supports to graduate college-ready. Last year, 8 of our high schools were recognized by the U.S. News & World Report as among the best high schools nationwide.
Our schools also provide excellent activities and extracurricular programs that you may find elsewhere. Whether through athletics, music, or even our robotics program, students at Green Dot schools grow into well-rounded adults equipped to thrive after high school.
So, put your child on the path to college today — again, the deadline for lottery forms is 4pm on November 29, 2016.
