Call for Proposals: Green Dot Public Schools Hosts Virtual Legacy Conference

Legacy Conference

For decades, African American students have had disproportionately negative academic and social outcomes across the country. Green Dot Public Schools seeks to build learning environments that uphold achievement and strengthen the voices of all of our students. That is why our annual Legacy Conference, a collective space to help support those who serve and support Black students, is now seeking proposals to help center black student and educator voices in our work.

On March 17, 2021, we will kick off our third annual Legacy Conference. This year’s theme for the conference is “Amplifying the Cultural Assets of Black Students.” All students have a wealth of cultural assets that can be leveraged to improve their outcomes for success-and we are dedicating time to focus on how our interaction can empower African American students. The four-hour virtual event will include a fire-side keynote, parent and student panel sessions, workshops, and presentations.

We are looking for dynamic presenters who will drive our discussions around equitable education, share research-based best practices for empowering African American students, and demonstrate how we can dismantle systems against them.

Topics of interest include:
– Building relationships with Black students and families
– Identifying and celebrating the cultural assets of Black students
– Culturally responsive teaching practices that affirm and support Black students’ achievement
– Disrupting implicit bias and anti-Blackness in classroom/school/organizational settings
– Creating safe and brave spaces for Black students, families, and/or employees
– Meeting the social and emotional needs of Black students and families
– Cultivating partnerships with Black parents and communities
– Supporting allyship between Black and Latinx students, parents, communities

Chosen conference workshop presenters will be paid a total of $500 to facilitate their presentation up to three times during the Legacy Conference. All proposals must be submitted online by January 15, 2021.
