This piece was part of the Ánimo Voices Competition, which invited students to write about innovators, upstanders, visionaries, or rebels that have made a difference in their local or broader communities. The competition was an opportunity to motivate, recognize, and celebrate our strong student voices through writing and art.

The world is full of people in this world that do many things to help us all in many ways every single day. For example, policemen and firefighters are heroes because they risk their lives to save other people from danger of fires, gunfire, and robbery. My personal heroes that have embodied this definition many times to me in my life are my parents. They have always done anything for me to have a better life that I can enjoy and have fun with every single day. They have helped me through many hard times in soccer, school, at home, or with people in general. My parents showed me how cruel and hard the real world so I can get prepared to live a pretty awesome adult life with only a little problems, I hope. They work hard to provide me with anything I need to be successful every day and they care and love me because I always repay them with good grades and awards from school and soccer. Heroes sacrifice anything of theirs for the better, are hard working, are very loving, dedicated and are risk takers.

People in this world that you may not even know are some of many heroes that exist on Earth. These people follow at least my personal definition of a hero. My definition of a hero is a person who sacrifices anything for the better, works very hard, is loving, dedicated, and who is a risk taker. For example, soldiers from the army are heroes because they risk and sacrifice their own lives to protect our lives from danger for the greater good. Family and friends can also be your heroes because they care for you a lot and most of the times they are there to support you when you need it. Another example of a hero are your teachers. Teachers are there to help you when you donäó»t understand a certain concept about a lesson. Sometimes when you feel sad or mad they might come up to you and ask what happened. Most of the time they will try to help you with the problem so you can feel better and enjoy your day. This shows if someone is a hero or not because out of all the heroes Iäó»ve seen, all of them have at least showed on of these important qualities of being a true hero. These are better than any other quality because it shows all the main things you should personally have inside of your mind to be a good person in this world. This is my personal definition and examples of a hero to me.

Many people in my life are heroes to me. But, my parents are two of my biggest heroes because everyday they show what I call, the definition a hero. My parents have supported me through everything, since day one. They have helped me in school when I needed it. They take me to school so I can learn to be a better person. They cook for me so I can eat a good meal. My parents try to make me feel better when Iäó»m sad or mad about anything. They support me in my soccer because they sacrifice their work time to take me to my practices and soccer games. When my team losses they always try to cheer me up by helping look at the bright/positive side of things. My parents have also helped me in relationships by them explaining to me that most relationships donäó»t last long at my age. These are many reasons why my parents are true heroes to me in my life.

My parents impact my life in many types of ways. For example, my dad taught me how to be a very brave and courageous goalkeeper. He taught me how to throw myself, be the boss of the team, how to communicate, etc. My mom has played a big part in me being in my opinion, on being an amazing student at school. She has showed me how to respect everyone at school, what to say when I need help, what to do if I have a problem with any staff, how to deal with verbal insults from anyone, and she getäó»s really happy when I come home and tell her that I got a good grade on like a test, which I love. I love making my parents happy. Itäó»s one of the reasons I give my best everyday at school. If my parents were never like this, I believe that I would have been an entirely different person that who I am today. I believe that in the future I will be similar to my to parents on how they act and their personality. My parents helped me become from a young crazy kid to a more educated, loving, focused, amazing human being.

In this entire world, heroes exist everywhere you go. They are the people who sacrifice anything for the greater good, are loving, hard workers, and are risk takers. Some people only follow one of these qualities of a hero, but I can still consider them some type of a hero. I am sure that both of my parents embody all these qualities. They have impacted me in my everyday life. They do everything for me. In conclusion, many people in this world donäó»t follow the definition which shows why we should be happy for these awesome heroes that exist in all of our lives. These heroes are important because they show us how to work together as one and to be positive about many things that happen. Without our amazing heroes the world would be even more cruel, mean, and would be negative. This means that our heroes bring peace and happiness to Earth. There could be heroes everyday, you just might not know it. You might even be a hero yourself, you just might not realize it at the time being.
