Locke Hosts the Fourth Annual Community Appreciation Day
On a warm Saturday morning, the halls of Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy were filled with smiling faces of students and their families. This month Locke hosted its annual Community Appreciation Day, where hundreds of families, community members and local leaders visited Locke for a day of celebration and education. Participants enjoyed food, entertainment, and participated in workshops hosted by over 40 different community organizations such as the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, Haven Neighborhood Services, and L.A. Care.
At Green Dot , we not only seek to improve the outcomes of our students, but our communities as well. Through our partnership with United Parents and Students (UPAS), we have equipped countless parents with the tools to become greater forces of positive change in the lives of their children and their neighborhoods. UPAS provides families with free workshops designed to develop basic skills and provide Green Dot parents with a core understanding of the issues that most affect their communities.
We are committed to the success of all students and the communities they call home. This is why we work to help parents realize their power and address the factors outside school boundaries that not only pose barriers to learning, but also inhibit local quality of life.
