This piece was part of the Ánimo Voices Writing Competition, which invited students to write about innovators, upstanders, visionaries, or rebels that have made a difference in their local or broader communities. The competition was an opportunity to motivate, recognize, and celebrate our strong student voices and writing skills.

The world was in despair
Only all could repair
Let’s make America great again they say
Only lies could go that way
There is no understanding to how we all feel
Let’s all just take some to heal
We put Donald Trump in the white house
But could we just kick him out?
All Trump wants to do is build a wall
He played us with his words
Tweets filled with verbs
Actions he’ll never follow through
He should be on his way
He does nothing in our time of need
Should we even have to plea?
Could we just bring Obama back?
He had the job in the sack!
All Trump has done is trouble
He’ll have us all under rubble
We had ObamaCare, as in someone that actually cared
He bared with us through the pain and heartbreak
Now he’s the one taking a break
Well he deserves it, he’s done so much
That’s why we love him a bunch
He put his whole heart into it
That’s pretty committed
He’s received a Nobel Peace Prize
He probably should have won a couple more times
He was in office for 8 years
Maybe even cried some happy tears
Obama is the biggest job creating president
Let’s give the man some credit
He helped South Sudan declare independence
What have you accomplished?
