PowerSchool Data Security Incident Notification
As you may be aware, PowerSchool – a software vendor used by Green Dot Public Schools (“GDPS”) – recently experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain information stored in the PowerSchool Student Information System (“SIS”). This incident affected personal information of students as well as staff with PowerSchool user accounts.
This notice provides details about the incident, actions taken, and resources available to help protect affected individuals. It also includes instructions for enrolling in complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services.
What Happened?
On December 28, 2024, PowerSchool identified a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized acquisition of certain personal information.
On January 7, 2025, PowerSchool notified GDPS that our cloud-based SIS environment was impacted.
PowerSchool has confirmed that the breach was contained, and there is no evidence of ongoing malicious activity.
The breach resulted from compromised PowerSchool credentials and impacted thousands of schools and districts nationwide.
Green Dot Public Schools’ internal computer systems were not affected by this incident.
PowerSchool is sending notification emails to affected individuals on GDPS’s behalf.
What Information Was Involved?
For students: Name, contact information, date of birth, and Social Security Number.
For staff: Name, job title, and contact information.
What You Can Do

PowerSchool is providing complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Experian. These services include:
24 months of credit monitoring
Internet surveillance
Identity restoration assistance
$1 million identity theft insurance
Enrollment Steps
Enroll by July 31, 2025 (your activation code will expire after this date).

Steps to Help Protect Your Child’s Information
Monitor Account Activity
Regularly review account statements for any unusual activity.
Report any fraudulent activity to your financial institution, law enforcement, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Check for a Credit Report
Request a manual Social Security number search from the three major credit bureaus for minors.
Report any fraudulent accounts immediately.
Report misuse of a minor’s identity to the FTC at identitytheft.gov.
Place a Security Freeze
A security freeze can prevent unauthorized accounts from being opened in your child’s name. Contact the three major credit bureaus to place a freeze:

Place a Fraud Alert
A fraud alert warns creditors to verify your identity before opening new accounts. Contact any of the three bureaus to request one. More information is available at AnnualCreditReport.com.
