Academics
Ánimo James B. Taylor Charter Middle School offers rigorous academics to ensure your student is prepared not only for high school, but for college, leadership, and life. Through Project Lead the Way, we have three unique STEM pathways:
- Design and Modeling: Students learn and utilize methods for communicating design ideas through sketches, solid models, and mathematical models.
- Automation and Robotics: Students explore robotics and automation as they take on the role of interns, and work in teams to create prototypes to meet the needs of clients.
- App Creators: Introduces students to the field of computer science and the concepts of computational thinking, through the creation of mobile apps.
Our available electives include Ethnic Studies, Creative Writing, and Investigations. We also partner with Southwest College to give students the opportunity to take a Reading for College course. Outside of the classroom, eighth graders can enjoy an overnight college tour and start to envision their future.
Specialized Advisories
Our specialized advisory classes set Ánimo James B. Taylor apart as our educators provide students with both academic and social-emotional mentoring. Advisories include: Black Student Union, Emergent Bilinguals, Visual Arts, Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), All Girls Advisory, All Boys Advisory, Yearbook, and Leadership.
Counseling
We provide mental health and socioemotional support for all students with the support of full-time school counselors and school psychologists on-site. All of our services, including 9 support programs, are free to students and provided on our campus.
Campus Life
Our college-going culture and school spirit motivate students to succeed and make the most out of their experience at Ánimo James B. Taylor.
We are excited to have a unique variety of clubs and after school programs through our exclusive Expanded Learning program and partnership with ARC—at no cost to our families.
athletics
Be Titan Strong! Our students have the opportunity to participate in soccer, basketball, football, Girls on the Run, and cheer/spirit squad.
Students on the basketball team are part of the FIYA league and can compete against local schools.
Community
We view our parents and guardians as equal partners in providing students with meaningful educational experiences. This past school year, we were thrilled to host our first ever Ánimo James B. Taylor community block party and can’t wait for the next one!
We built a strong sense of community with our sister school, Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy. Many students graduate from Ánimo James B. Taylor and continue on their path to college readiness on the Locke campus.
