Academics

Ánimo City of Champions Charter High School excels in preparing students for college with a comprehensive academic approach. Our offerings include a range of AP Courses like Calculus, English Language, Literature, Environmental Science, Government, Spanish Language, and US History. Specialized pathways in Entrepreneurship and Engineering and Robotics, along with diverse electives, such as Ethnic Studies and Film and Composition, cater to varied interests. Additionally, dual enrollment opportunities in college-level History and Social Science courses provide early college credits. This ensures students are academically prepared and well-equipped with the skills they’ll need for success in higher education and beyond.

College counseling

Ánimo City of Champions boasts an exceptional college counseling service that plays a pivotal role in guiding our students toward success in higher education. Many of our graduates have secured spots at prestigious universities such as UCLA, Morehouse, Howard, Loyola Marymount University, and numerous Cal States. With over 80% of our senior class eligible to apply to four-year institutions, our dedicated counseling team provides personalized support, so that each student is well-prepared and equipped with the information they need. From navigating applications to addressing concerns, our counselors ensure that every student’s college journey is supported and successful.

Campus Life

Ánimo City of Champions has a safe campus and nurturing environment, which allows students to feel comfortable when approaching any staff member with questions or to simply be heard. Each student is paired with an adult champion who supports their academic and personal growth, ensuring they feel empowered to express themselves freely. This supportive atmosphere encourages students to actively participate in creating clubs and shaping their high school experience according to their interests and aspirations. We prioritize building strong relationships and providing a supportive community where every student can be their best – both academically and personally.

Dual Enrollment

At Ánimo City of Champions, students have the unique opportunity to begin Dual Enrollment courses as early as the spring of their freshman year, all conveniently scheduled during regular school hours. These courses, offered in collaboration with El Camino College and Southwest College, are selected based on elective flexibility, prior history with dual enrollment, and GPA. We believe that participating in dual enrollment not only enhances academic achievement but also aids students in making informed college decisions, learning effective coursework management, and gaining insight into the expectations of college life.

Sports & Clubs

At Ánimo City of Champions, students have the opportunity to explore their interests through a diverse range of extracurricular activities. Students can compete in sports like volleyball, cross country, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and co-ed cheerleading, providing avenues for physical fitness and team camaraderie. Additionally, our campus hosts various student-led clubs, such as Associated Student Body (ASB), Campus Ambassadors (CAs), City of Gamers, Black Student Union (BSU), Latinx Allies United (LAU), and Yearbook. These clubs not only enrich students’ social experiences but ensure a well-rounded high school experience at Ánimo City of Champions.

Student Quote

The fact that you know everyone, and everyone knows you that makes me feel like you have a more important place on campus and people actually care about you.”
