Renewal & Reflection: Which Green Dot Values will Guide us in 2017?
As we enter a new year, there is much to consider from the past year that can help support our mission to transform public education so that all students graduate prepared for college, leadership, and life. There are many elements of our work that are truly valuable to student growth and community revitalization–both core parts of Green Dot Public Schools’ model.
Honoring excellence: The Golden Dot Awards

Golden Dot Awards are given to staff who exemplify Green Dot’s Core Values and Leading Green Principles. The night’s awardees will be drawn from our inspiring teachers, staff, and administrators who serve Green Dot’s more than 13,000 students. Realizing our vision: College Persistence
Today, the biggest driver of upward mobility is education. Without a college degree, half of those children raised in families with low incomes will remain in poverty throughout their adult lives. But with a college degree, nine out of ten will escape the poverty of their youth. The Green Dot Public Schools College Persistence Initiative seeks to close the college completion gap for low-income students.

Celebrating quality teaching at the heart of our model
Having the right teachers in our classrooms is among the most important things we do. It is essential to students that we get it right. The difference our teachers make in the lives of our students does not go unnoticed. At Green Dot Public Schools, teachers are innovative in their teaching, finding new ways to make sure students are mastering subjects. They personalize learning and use data to help guide their teaching.

Combatting external barriers to learning through community engagement
To Green Dot, Community Engagement is at the heart of our work. We collaborate with and prepare Green Dot parents to organize together for positive social change and to improve conditions in their communities. Our community engagement approach raises awareness of the democratic process, celebrates organized accomplishments, and works to properly raise up our families and advocate for our communities.

Preparing students for college, leadership, and life
As a result of the dedicated work of the entire Green Dot team, last year we graduated more than 1,500 students, the most of any charter management organization in the country for the third year in a row. Each time our students walk graduation stages, we reflect on the importance of the occasion in their lives. We are incredibly proud of every one of them: their hard work and dedication, and that of their teachers inspires us all. Making college dreams come true is really what drives everyone at Green Dot. We believe, we know, that a college education is life-changing. We see proof of that each time one of our past grads returns to campus.
