Academics
Ánimo Leadership Charter High School encourages students to explore their interests and challenge themselves with rigorous courses. We offer 10 Advanced Placement courses in Calculus, Biology, English Language, English Literature, Government, Psychology, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, Studio Art Drawing, and U.S History. Through Project Lead the Way, we have a Principles of Biomedical Science pathway as well as elective courses in Drama, Ethnic Studies, Visual Art, Yearbook/Journalism, College Readiness, and Information and Communication Technology.
All of our scholars experience a college-going culture through our dual enrollment partnership with West LA College. We offer college courses on campus during the regular school day, where students can earn college credit in classes like Psychology, Child Development, and Political Science.
Counseling
School counselors are passionate about supporting students academically and personally. Our team provides personalized guidance to help students navigate the college application process, explore career options, and develop essential life skills. Through one-on-one counseling and college visits, we ensure every student is equipped and excited to make informed decisions about their future. We encourage students to dream big and enlist college program partners for help along the way, including College Match, USC Bovard Scholars, and POSSE. At Ánimo Leadership, we strive for innovation, and lead with compassion.
Campus Life
Ánimo Leadership is a small, safe school with a supportive environment. Our students are welcome to participate in over 15 clubs and afterschool programs. We want students to feel inspired the second they walk through our doors, so we’ve designed a radiant campus with murals and college flags to remind our young scholars that anything is possible.
Regular assemblies, award ceremonies, and incentive events are hosted to recognize and celebrate student success. Parents and guardians are always welcome at Ánimo Leadership.
Arts
AP Studio Art Drawing and Visual Art will unlock your creative potential. Outside of the classroom, Photography Club, Folklorico, Drama Club, and Cosmetology/Gel-X Club are great opportunities to connect with classmates and learn a new skill.
Last year, our Spring Festival of the Arts was a huge success! Performances by our drama class, Grupo de Folklorico de Ánimo, dance team, and drama club made this event one to remember.
Athletics
Join the Aztecs! Our school has been approved to participate in CIF sports and we currently offer volleyball, soccer, basketball, cross-country, baseball, and softball where our athletes can develop their skills and compete against other local schools. This year, our boys’ soccer team won their first CIF championship since 2014!
Students can also be part of our teacher-sponsored clubs like Weightlifting, Yoga, Drill Team, and Running Club.
Community
We view our parents and guardians as equal partners in providing children with meaningful educational experiences and regularly find ways to connect and give back to our community like at our Dia de Los Muertos Celebration. Leadership alumni are another integral part of our Ánimo community, and we invite them back on campus to share stories of their incredible accomplishments.
Student Quote
This fall, I will be the first in my family to attend college when I start at Stanford University. I credit my success to the preparation I received at Ánimo Leadership, combined with my family’s love and encouragement. With the foundation I built at Ánimo Leadership, I feel confident embarking on this next chapter of higher learning.”
