Academics
Our charter high school is dedicated to setting students up for success. We offer seven AP courses in Calculus, Computer Science, English Language, English Literature, Government, Spanish Language, and U.S History. Through Project Lead the Way, we have a Computer Science Essentials pathway, and honors English, Math, and Science courses are available to students starting in 10th grade.
All of our scholars experience a college-going culture with our four-year College Readiness Program. Our partnership with East L.A. College allows us to offer college courses on campus during the regular school day, allowing students to earn real college credit.
Counseling
Our school counselors and college success advisors are passionate about supporting students. We encourage our young scholars to dream big and enlist college program partners for help along the way, including College Track, Minds Matter, POSSE, Dell Scholars, Ánimo Scholars, and Questbridge.
We have annual college field trips to UC, CSU, and private colleges for every grade level as well as a 10th grade overnight trip to San Diego and an 11th grade overnight trip to Northern California.
Campus Life
Ánimo Pat Brown is a tight-knit community with an inclusive school culture based on positive relationships and Gryphon pride. ARC after-school activities and Expanded Learning programming is available every day until 6pm – at no cost to families. Students can explore their interests in over 10 different clubs, including the Gryphon Garden.
Athletics
Our school has been approved to participate in CIF sports since 2020. We currently offer volleyball, cross-country, soccer, basketball, and track. Young athletes can develop their skills and compete against other local schools.
Scholars can also participate in Students Run L.A. and train towards running the L.A. Marathon!
Arts
We know every student is unique and want them to find their place at Ánimo Pat Brown. Among the many electives available to all students are Digital Arts, Visual Art, and Drama. Outside of the classroom, Painting Club, Cosmetology/Gel-X Club, DIY Club, and Music Production help our students find their spark.
Community
We view our parents and guardians as equal partners in providing students with meaningful educational experiences. This year, we were honored to become a California Community Schools Grant Winner, allowing us to connect our families to partners and programs that support their needs. We’ve also built a strong sense of community with our sister school, Ánimo Florence-Firestone Charter Middle School. Many of our students graduate from Ánimo Florence-Firestone and continue on their path to college readiness through our campus.
