Academics
At Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy, we pride ourselves on offering a rigorous college-prep curriculum that sets our students on a path to academic success. Our students have access to career pathways and advanced placement courses, including the new AP African American Studies, ensuring they are well-prepared for college-level work. We offer 16 AP courses, 2 CTE programs, and dual enrollment opportunities during the school day. Our English-Language Development (ELD) program is one of the few that offers comprehensive support year-round, helping 32% of our students, who are emerging bilinguals, excel. Additionally, students can explore innovative science and technology options, including our cybersecurity elective course and robotics, which is a specialized advisory.

Counseling
School counselors are passionate about supporting students academically and personally. Our team provides personalized guidance to help students navigate the college application process, explore career options, and develop essential life skills. Through one-on-one counseling and college visits, we ensure every student is equipped and excited to make informed decisions about their future. We encourage students to dream big and are ready to support them along the way.

Arts
Our revived world-class marching band and drill team offer students a chance to shine and develop their musical talents. Students can also explore their interests in various arts programs, such as:
- Drawing
- Cosmetology
- Photography
- Video production
- Arts and crafts
Campus Life
Campus life at Locke is rich and diverse, creating a nurturing and engaging environment for all students. Our after-school activities are extensive, including e-gaming and free driver’s education classes. With a focus on creating a safe, inclusive, and vibrant community, Locke ensures that every student feels valued and supported in their journey.

athletics
Locke’s athletics program offers a wide range of sports to engage students and promote physical fitness. Our offerings include:
- Football, volleyball, cross country, basketball, competitive cheer, soccer, baseball, softball, and track and field
- Fitness and conditioning programs available for both in-season athletes and all students.

Medical Pathways
Locke has partnered with Health Care Integrated Services (HCIS) to launch a groundbreaking medical apprenticeship program. This initiative offers students as young as 16 the opportunity to earn their Medical Assistant certificate while still in school. In addition to hands-on training, the program provides vital medical services to our families, building both career readiness and community health.

Community
Our campus buzzes with vibrant activities and robust community partnerships that provide essential resources for health, wellness, and more. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student feels like family. Through mentorship programs, cultural events, and community service opportunities, we foster strong bonds and a sense of belonging. Our community extends to our sister school, Ánimo James B. Taylor Charter Middle School, where many of our students graduate before continuing on their path to college readiness on our campus.
Student Quote
Ánimo James B. Taylor and Locke High School are excellent, and that is why I have stayed with these schools. [My daughter] is currently in 9th grade and her transition has been smooth. She feels well prepared and supported by her teachers."
– Amelia Romo,
Parent of Ánimo James B. Taylor graduate and current Locke student
