Academics
We place a high emphasis on academic rigor at Ánimo Jefferson Charter Middle School. Through Project Lead the Way, students have access to two unique STEM pathways: App Creators and Medical Detectives.
App Creators introduces students to the field of computer science and the concepts of computational thinking, through the creation of mobile apps.
In Medical Detectives, students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they learn about medical practices and systems.
College-Going Culture
Students can take college classes and earn college credit through our dual enrollment partnership with L.A. Trade Technical College. Courses are offered on our campus during the regular school day, and we invite students and families to join us on college tours, which are available to students in every grade level.
Student Voice
Ánimo Jefferson’s positive school environment inspires students to find their voice. Our Investigations class produced an award-winning student run news site, The Bulldog Bugle. Students can be staff writers or even nominated as an editor, strengthening their writing skills.
In the annual Ánimo Voices competition – an art, writing, and spoken word contest open to all Green Dot students – many of our students showcase their creative talents. Recently, two of our winning student pieces were featured in the first women’s issue of Like the Wind, a global quarterly literary magazine about running.
Campus Life
We are committed to helping students build connections and nurture a sense of belonging in their communities. Additionally, we offer a variety of support programs, such as Women and Youth Supporting Each Other through USC and COST Team.
We have a unique variety of clubs and after-school activities through our exclusive Expanded Learning program—at no cost to families.
Athletics
Ánimo Jefferson Charter Middle School offers basketball, soccer, volleyball, dance, and Students Run L.A. All students are welcome to join our Bulldog teams, which promote teamwork and an active lifestyle.
Community
We view our parents and guardians as equal partners in providing children with meaningful educational experiences. Families are welcome to join our School Advisory Council and actively participate in your student’s educational journey.
We have a strong sense of community with our sister school, Ánimo Ralph Bunche Charter High School. Many students graduate from Ánimo Jefferson and continue on their path to college readiness at Ánimo Ralph Bunche, where they can expect the same care and excellence.
Parent Quote
Both of the schools feel like a family to us. The staff even feels that we are a family to them."
– Ana Prado,
Parent of Ánimo Jefferson and Ánimo Ralph Bunche students
