then\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow up with student for additional support as needed and provide a restorative intervention<\/span><\/li><\/ol><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rev. 06\/2023<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-tab-title elementor-tab-mobile-title\" aria-selected=\"false\" data-tab=\"4\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-3674\" aria-expanded=\"false\">Mathematics Placement Policy<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-3674\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"4\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-3674\" tabindex=\"0\" hidden=\"hidden\"><h3>Policy:\u00a0 Mathematics Placement Policy<\/h3><p>This policy has been adopted to establish a fair, objective, and transparent protocol for placement in mathematics courses for students entering 9th grade, in order to ensure the success of every student and to meet the Legislative intent of the California Mathematics Placement Act of 2015.<\/p><ol><li>In determining the mathematics course placement for entering 9th grade students, Green Dot systematically takes multiple objective academic measures of student performance into consideration, which may include any or all of the following as determined by Green Dot:<ul><li>i-Ready Diagnostic Adaptive Assessment aligned to the Common Core Math standards;<\/li><li>Statewide summative mathematics assessments through the CAASPP;<\/li><li>Placement tests that are aligned to state-adopted content standards in mathematics;<\/li><li>Recommendation, if available, of each student\u2019s 8th grade mathematics teacher based on classroom assignment and grades;<\/li><li>Recommendation, if any, of each student\u2019s 9th grade mathematics teacher based on classroom assignments and grades provided at the beginning of the school year;<\/li><li>Final grade in mathematics on the student\u2019s official, end of the year 8th grade report card; or<\/li><li>Results from all placement checkpoints, including at least one (1) placement checkpoint within the first month of the school year as described in Section 2, below.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Green Dot will provide at least one (1) placement checkpoint within the first month of the school year to ensure accurate placement and permit reevaluation of individual student progress. All mathematics teachers responsible for teaching 9th grade students will assess the mathematics placements for each 9th grade student assigned to the teacher\u2019s mathematics class. The teacher\u2019s assessment will take into consideration factors which may include, but are not limited to, updated i-Ready Adaptive Diagnostic scores, the student\u2019s classroom assignments, quizzes, tests, exams, and grades, and any comments provided by the student, the student\u2019s parent\/legal guardian, and\/or the student\u2019s other teachers regarding the student\u2019s mathematics placement. Based on the assessment, the teacher will then recommend that the student remain in the current mathematics placement or be transferred to another mathematics placement, in which case the teacher shall specify the mathematics course or level recommended for the student.<\/li><li>The Green Dot Director, or his or her designee, shall examine aggregate student placement data annually to ensure that students who are qualified to progress in mathematics courses based on their performance on objective academic measures included in Section 1 of this policy are not held back in a disproportionate manner on the basis of their race, ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic background. Green Dot shall annually report the aggregate results of this examination to the School Board.<\/li><li>Green Dot offers clear and timely recourse for each student and his or her parent or legal guardian who questions the student\u2019s placement, as follows:<ul><li>A parent\/legal guardian of any 9th grade student may submit a written request to the Green Dot Principal, or his or her designee, that:<ul><li>Requests information regarding how the student\u2019s mathematics placement was determined. Within five (5) days of receipt, the Green Dot Principal or designee shall respond in writing to the parent\/legal guardian\u2019s request by providing the information, including the objective academic measures that Green Dot relied upon in determining the student\u2019s mathematics placement.<\/li><li>Requests that the student retake the i-Ready Diagnostic and\/or an additional placement test, in which case the Principal or designee will attempt to facilitate the retest within two (2) weeks.<\/li><li>Requests reconsideration of the student\u2019s mathematics placement based on objective academic measures. Within five (5) school days of receipt, the Green Dot Principal or designee shall respond in writing to the parent\/legal guardian\u2019s request. The Principal or designee and the student\u2019s mathematics teacher must assess the objective academic measures provided by the parent in conjunction with the objective academic measures identified in Section 1 and 2 of this policy. Based on this assessment, the Principal or designee must determine whether the most appropriate mathematics placement for the student is the student\u2019s current placement or another placement, in which case the Principal shall specify the mathematics course or level recommended for the student. The Principal\u2019s or designee\u2019s response must provide the determination as well as the objective academic measures that the Principal or designee relied upon in making that determination.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Notwithstanding the foregoing, if the Principal or designee requires additional time to respond to a parent\/legal guardian\u2019s request, the Principal or designee will provide a written response indicating that additional time is needed. Bullying includes one or more acts committed by a student or group of students that may constitute hate violence, or creates an intimidating and\/or hostile educational environment, directed toward one or more students that has or can be reasonably predicted to have the effect of one or more of the following:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Placing a reasonable student \u00a0 or students in fear of harm to that student\u2019s or those students\u2019 person or property.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Causing a reasonable student to experience a substantially detrimental effect on the student\u2019s physical or mental health.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Causing a reasonable student to experience a substantial interference with the student\u2019s academic performance.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Causing a reasonable student to experience a substantial interference with the student\u2019s ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by Green Dot.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Cyberbullying <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is an electronic act that includes the transmission of harassing communication, direct threats, or other harmful texts, sounds, video or images on the Internet, social media, or other technologies using a telephone, computer, or any wireless communication device. Cyberbullying also includes breaking into another person\u2019s electronic account and assuming that person\u2019s identity in order to damage that person\u2019s reputation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Electronic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> act means the creation or transmission originated on or off the school site, by means of an electronic device, including, but not limited to, a telephone, wireless telephone, or other wireless communication device, computer, or pager, of a communication, including, but not limited to, any of the following:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A message, text, sound, video, or image, including those generated by or with assistance from artificial intelligence or similar technological tools.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A post on a social network Internet Web site including, but not limited to:<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Posting to or creating a burn page. A \u201cburn page\u201d means an Internet Web site created for the purpose of having one or more of the effects as listed in the definition of \u201cbullying,\u201d above.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating a credible impersonation of another actual student for the purpose of having one or more of the effects listed in the definition of \u201cbullying,\u201d above. \u201cCredible impersonation\u201d means to knowingly and without consent impersonate a student for the purpose of bullying the student and such that another student would reasonably believe, or has reasonably believed, that the student was or is the student who was impersonated.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating a false profile for the purpose of having one or more of the effects listed in the definition of \u201cbullying,\u201d above. \u201cFalse profile\u201d means a profile of a fictitious student or a profile using the likeness or attributes of an actual student other than the student who created the false profile.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An act of \u201cCyber sexual bullying\u201d including, but not limited to:<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dissemination of, or the solicitation or incitement to disseminate, a photograph or other visual recording by a student to another student or to school personnel by means of an electronic act that has or can be reasonably predicted to have one or more of the effects described in definition of \u201cbullying,\u201d above. A photograph or other visual recording, as described above, shall include the depiction of a nude, semi-nude, or sexually explicit photograph or other visual recording of a minor where the minor is identifiable from the photograph, visual recording, or other electronic act.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCyber sexual bullying\u201d does not include a depiction, portrayal, or image that has any serious literary, artistic, educational, political, or scientific value or that involves athletic events or school-sanctioned activities.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notwithstanding the definitions of \u201cbullying\u201d and \u201celectronic act\u201d above, an electronic act shall not constitute pervasive conduct solely on the basis that it has been transmitted on the Internet or is currently posted on the Internet.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Student Expectations for Online Conduct<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students are expected to use technology and online platforms in a respectful and responsible manner. This includes, but is not limited to:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not posting, sharing, or sending messages or images that are harmful, threatening, humiliating, or intended to exclude or target another person;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not creating or using fake profiles, impersonating others, or spreading false information about others;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Considering how online comments or posts may affect others before sharing them; and<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reporting online behavior that may constitute bullying, harassment, intimidation, or discrimination to a school staff member.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Bullying and Cyberbullying Prevention Procedures<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using technology. Cyberbullying can happen through text messages, social media, online games, email, or other digital platforms.\u00a0 Green Dot has adopted the following procedures for preventing acts of bullying, including cyberbullying.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Cyberbullying Prevention Procedures<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot advises students:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To never share passwords, personal data, or private photos online.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To think about what they are doing carefully before posting and by emphasizing that comments cannot be retracted once they are posted.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That personal information revealed on social media can be shared with anyone including parents, teachers, administrators, and potential employers. Students should never reveal information that would make them uncomfortable if the world had access to it.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To consider how it would feel receiving such comments before making comments about others online.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot informs its employees, students, and parents\/guardians of Green Dot\u2019s policies regarding the use of technology in and out of the classroom.\u00a0 Green Dot encourages parents\/guardians to discuss these policies with their children to ensure their children understand and comply with such policies.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The following are potential websites, peer-to-peer instant message services, image\/video posting platforms, and comment forums where cyberbullying can occur. Please note this is not an exhaustive list.<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Amino<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: An app that lets users join online communities, chats, forums, and groups on a variety of topics based on their interests.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Askfm: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A social networking site that allows users to ask other people questions, often anonymously.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Calculator%:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A \u201cvault\u201d or secret app that appears harmless, but hides photos, videos, files, and browser history.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Chatroulette: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are over 20 different chat roulette sites that allow users to instantly connect via webcam and video chat. Sites typically pair the users randomly and instantly.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Discord<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: A voice-over-IP (VOIP) app that allows users to video chat with others, private message, and join, create, or participate in public and private chat rooms. This app is often used by players to chat with each other while playing videogames.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Facebook<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Facebook Live: The most commonly used social media site that is accessible on many different media platforms.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Facebook Messenger Kids:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A messaging app and platform for children.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Houseparty: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A group video chat and social networking app that allows up to eight people to video chat at once in a \u201croom.\u201d<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Instagram<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: A photo and video sharing and networking site that connects users through other social networking sites (e.g., Facebook).<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Kik:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Messaging app that allows users of all ages to contact others anonymously.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Line:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A messaging app that allows users to make free phone calls, leave voice messages, and text. Users can delete texts or chats from recipient\u2019s phone using a timer.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>LiveMe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: A tool to broadcast live-streaming videos and watch other users\u2019 videos.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>MeetMe: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A dating app that connects users to others based on geographic proximity.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Omegle: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An app that pairs users with strangers in anonymous one-on-one chat sessions.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Reddit: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A site that stores social news, rates and evaluates web content, and discussion threads.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Roblox<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: An online game platform with free multiplayer games created by users. Roblox allows users to communicate with each other and join groups.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sarahah:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> An anonymous messaging app that allows users to send anonymous messages to people they may know.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Snapchat:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A photo messaging app that allows for sharing pictures and short videos that are intended to be erased shortly after delivery.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Telegram: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Messaging app that allows users to share photos, videos, and files; make calls, and delete texts or chats from recipient\u2019s phone using a timer.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>TikTok: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An app that allows users to create and share their own videos where they lip-synch, sing, dance, or just talk.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Tumblr: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A social networking site that allows posting of short blogs and media.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Twitch:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A live stream platform for gamers to watch live stream content, chat, and connect<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>VSCO:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A photography app to capture and edit photos.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>WeChat: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An app that allows users to chat with friends, and to search for people nearby and around the globe.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>WhatsApp: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A private messaging app that allows users to text, send photos, videos, and location information to their contacts.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Whisper:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> An anonymous social media site that allows users to post and share photo and video messages.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>X <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(formerly known as Twitter): A microblogging site that allows users to send, read, and reply to \u201ctweets\u201d or short messages.YouTube: A video sharing platform that allows users to post and share videos.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>YUBO<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (formerly YELLOW): An app referred to as the \u201cTinder for teens\u201d that allows users to swipe right or left to accept or reject the profiles of other users.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>YouNow:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Broadcast, Chat, and Watch Live Video: An app that lets teens broadcast themselves live. They can see and respond to live chat or view other broadcasters and chat with them.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Education\u00a0<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot provides age-appropriate instruction to students on appropriate online behavior, including responsible use of social media, the impact of online conduct on others, and strategies for responding to and reporting cyberbullying.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot also provide training to staff on recognizing, preventing, and responding to cyberbullying, including conduct that occurs through electronic communication and social media platforms.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot employees cannot always be present when bullying incidents occur, so educating students about bullying is a key prevention technique to limit bullying from happening. Green Dot advises students that hateful and\/or demeaning behavior is inappropriate and unacceptable in our society and at Green Dot and encourages students to practice compassion and respect each other.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot educates students to accept all student peers regardless of protected characteristics (including but not limited to actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identification, physical or cognitive disabilities, race, ethnicity, religion, and immigration status) and about the negative impact of bullying other students based on protected characteristics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot\u2019s bullying prevention education also discusses the differences between appropriate and inappropriate behaviors and includes sample situations to help students learn and practice appropriate behavior and to develop techniques and strategies to respond in a non-aggressive way to bullying-type <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">behaviors. Students will also develop confidence and learn how to advocate for themselves and others, and when to go to an adult for help.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot informs Green Dot employees, students, and parents\/guardians of this Policy and encourages parents\/guardians to discuss this Policy with their children to ensure their children understand and comply with this Policy.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Professional Development<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot annually makes available the online training module developed by the California Department of Education pursuant Education Code section 32283.5(a) to its certificated employees and all other Green Dot employees who have regular interaction with students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot informs certificated employees about the common signs that a student is a target of bullying including:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Physical cuts or injuries<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lost or broken personal items<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fear of going to school\/practice\/games<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Loss of interest in school, activities, or friends\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trouble sleeping or eating<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anxious\/sick\/nervous behavior or distracted appearance<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-destructiveness or displays of odd behavior<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Decreased self-esteem<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot also informs certificated employees about the groups of students determined by Green Dot and available research to be at elevated risk for bullying and provides its certificated employees with information on existing school and community resources related to the support of these groups. These groups include but are not limited to:\u00a0<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning youth (\u201cLGBTQ\u201d) and those youth perceived as LGBTQ; and\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students with physical or learning disabilities.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot encourages its employees to demonstrate effective problem-solving, anger management, and self-confidence skills for Green Dot\u2019s students.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Complaint Procedures<\/b><\/p><p><b>Scope of the Complaint Procedures<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot will comply with its Uniform Complaint Procedures (\u201cUCP\u201d) policy when investigating and responding to complaints alleging unlawful harassment, discrimination, intimidation or bullying against a protected group or on the basis of a person\u2019s association with a person or group with one or more of the protected characteristics set forth in the UCP that:\u00a0<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are written and signed;\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Filed by an individual who alleges that they have personally suffered unlawful discrimination, harassment, intimidation or bullying, or by one who believes any specific class of individuals has been subjected to discrimination, harassment, intimidation or bullying based on a protected characteristic, or by a duly authorized representative who alleges that an individual student has been subjected to discrimination, harassment, intimidation, or bullying; and<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Submitted to the school\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1q9aoG1I6QBVQ-TjhMP4d6POhzv7O-xECXBwSVtuXIn8\/edit?gid=737138709#gid=737138709\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UCP Officer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 not later than one (1) year from the date the alleged unlawful discrimination, harassment, intimidation or bullying occurred, or the date the complainant first obtained knowledge of the facts of the alleged discrimination, harassment, intimidation or bullying.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot will comply with its Title IX Policy when investigating and responding to complaints alleging sex discrimination, including sex-based harassment, in its education program or activity, as applicable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The following procedures shall be utilized for complaints of misconduct prohibited by this Policy that do not fall within the scope of Green Dot\u2019s Title IX Policy or comply with the writing, timeline, or other formal filing requirements of the UCP. A copy of Green Dot\u2019s Title IX Policy can be found on the school\u2019s website in the Student Policy Manual at C. 10.1\u00a0 and Green Dot\u2019s Uniform Complaint Procedures (UCP) Policies and Procedures can also be found on the school\u2019s website in the Student Policy Manual at C 16.0.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Submitting a Report or Complaint\u00a0<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All staff are expected to provide appropriate supervision to enforce standards of conduct and, if they observe or become aware of misconduct prohibited by this Policy, to intervene when safe to do so, call for assistance, and report such incidents. The Board requires staff to follow the procedures in this Policy for reporting alleged acts of misconduct prohibited by this Policy.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reports and complaints of misconduct prohibited by this Policy shall be submitted to the Principal (or the Area Superintendent if the complaint is against the Principal) as soon as possible after the incidents giving rise to the report or complaint.<\/span><\/p><ol><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> For Students:<\/span><\/li><\/ol><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are being cyberbullied or witness cyberbullying, you should:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do not respond or retaliate. Engaging with the cyberbully can escalate the situation.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Save the evidence. Take screenshots, save messages, emails, or posts. This evidence is critical for investigation.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Block the sender. Most platforms allow you to block unwanted contacts.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tell a trusted adult. This could be a parent\/guardian, teacher, counselor, school administrator, or any school staff member you feel comfortable speaking with.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ol><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> For Parents\/Guardians:<\/span><\/li><\/ol><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your child is experiencing cyberbullying or you become aware of a cyberbullying incident:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do not delete any evidence. Preserve all electronic communications, images, or posts.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speak with your child. Listen empathetically and reassure them that they are not alone and that help is available.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complaints regarding such misconduct may also be made to the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights. Civil law remedies, including, but not limited to, injunctions, restraining orders, or other remedies or orders may also be available to complainants.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While submission of a written report is not required, and Green Dot will investigate and respond to all oral and written reports of misconduct prohibited by this Policy, the reporting party is encouraged to submit a written report. Reports may be made anonymously, but formal disciplinary action cannot be based solely on an anonymous report.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students are expected to report all incidents of misconduct prohibited by this Policy and other verbal or physical abuses. Any student who feels they are a target of such behavior should immediately contact a teacher, counselor, the Principal, a staff person or a family member so that the student can get assistance in resolving the issue in a manner that is consistent with this Policy.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot acknowledges and respects every individual\u2019s right to privacy. All reports and complaints shall be investigated in a manner that protects the confidentiality of the parties and the integrity of the process to the greatest extent possible. This includes keeping the identity of the reporter and\/or complainant confidential, as appropriate, except to the extent necessary to comply with applicable law, carry out the investigation and\/or to resolve the issue, as determined by Green Dot on a case-by-case basis.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot prohibits any form of retaliation against any individual who files a report or complaint, testifies, assists, participates, or refuses to participate in any investigation or proceeding related to misconduct prohibited by this Policy. Such participation or lack of participation shall not in any way affect the status, grades, or work assignments of the individual. Individuals alleging retaliation in violation of this Policy may file a grievance using the procedures set forth in this Policy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Investigation and Response<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon receipt of a report or complaint of misconduct prohibited by this Policy, the Principal or designee will promptly initiate an investigation. In most cases, a thorough investigation will take no more than twenty-five (25) school days.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the conclusion of the investigation, the Principal or designee will, to the extent possible with respect to confidentiality laws, provide the complainant with information about the investigation and resolution of the incident\/situation. However, the Principal or designee will not reveal confidential information related to other students or employees.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the complaint is against the Principal, the Area Superintendent or their designee will conduct a fact-finding investigation and provide the complainant with information about the investigation and resolution of the incident\/situation.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Consequences\u00a0<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students or employees who engage in misconduct prohibited by this Policy may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from Green Dot or termination of employment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Right of Appeal<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Should a complainant find Green Dot\u2019s resolution unsatisfactory, for complaints within the scope of this Policy, the complainant may, within five (5) business days of notice of Green Dot\u2019s decision or resolution, submit a written appeal to the Chief Education Office, who will serve as the decisionmaker for the appeal or designate a decisionmaker for the appeal. The policy describes\u00a0 acceptable Green Dot Technology usage. <\/span><b>Violators of Green Dot Technology policies will lose technology access privileges. <\/b><b><i>As described in Sections C 19.0 and C 20.0, parents\/guardians may be held financially responsible for the loss of or damage to Green Dot issued technology devices.<\/i><\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use of Green Dot Technology is intended to serve and pursue educational goals and purposes. Student use of Green Dot Technology is limited to only those activities that further or enhance the delivery of education through classroom activities, research in academic subjects, career or professional development activities, Green Dot approved personal research activities, or other purposes as defined by the school from time to time. Students have a duty to use Green Dot Technology only in a manner specified in this Policy.<\/span><\/p><p><b>User Obligations and Responsibilities<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students have an affirmative obligation to consult appropriate computer personnel for any questions concerning the use of Green Dot Technology.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Except where authorized by the school, students shall not use Green Dot Technology for activities that do not serve an educational purpose. Prohibited uses include, but are not limited to, using Green Dot Technology for unauthorized commercial purposes or monetary gain or for any activity prohibited by law or Green Dot policy (includes but is not limited to acts related to credit card fraud, electronic forgery, the use or sale of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco, and assisting others to perform illegal acts). Any violation that is determined to be prohibited by law may result in criminal prosecution.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students are responsible for the proper use of their Green Dot Technology network or online services account at all times. Students shall use these services only under their assigned login or account and shall not share their account information.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Approved Online Services and Student Accounts<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students may only use Green Dot-approved online services, applications, websites, software, and digital tools for school purposes. Students may not create accounts, provide personal information, or use online services for school activities unless the service has been approved by Green Dot or authorized by school staff consistent with Green Dot procedures.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For students under age 13, Green Dot will approve online services, applications, websites, and digital tools through an appropriate school or organizational review process. Individual staff members should not require elementary students to create accounts, provide personal information, or use online services that have not been approved for student use.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Green Dot authorizes the use of an online service for students under age 13, such use must be for the benefit of the school and for educational purposes. Green Dot will seek to ensure that vendors provide appropriate information regarding the collection, use, disclosure, retention, and deletion of student information, and that student information is not used for unrelated commercial purposes.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students may not use Green Dot Technology to plagiarize another\u2019s work, to place copyrighted material on the Green Dot computer systems without the author\u2019s permission, or in a manner that violates the terms of any software license agreement. Unless specified otherwise, students may download copyrighted material and software for their own educational purpose; however, such material shall not be distributed or duplicated without the copyright holder\u2019s written permission.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technology Tools<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students may use artificial intelligence tools, chatbots, transcription tools, image-generation tools, or similar emerging technologies only when approved by a teacher or administrator and only for the approved educational purpose. Students may not use such tools to complete work in a way that violates academic integrity expectations or misrepresents the student\u2019s own work. Students may not enter personal information, confidential information, student information, or information about other students into any artificial intelligence tool or online service unless the tool has been approved by Green Dot for that use.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For elementary school students, artificial intelligence tools may only be used under staff direction and supervision, and only through Green Dot-approved tools or platforms.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unless otherwise noted, records, files, logs of any Internet Web Sites stored or visited, and communications accessed, stored, or transmitted using Green Dot Technology is not private or confidential. Green Dot may monitor and access any such user activity and data at any time, including to maintain system integrity and ensure acceptable use of technology.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students shall not access other users\u2019 electronic communications, documents, or files without permission. Students shall not interfere with other users\u2019 ability to send or receive electronic communications, nor shall they attempt to read, delete, copy, modify, or forge other users\u2019 electronic communications, documents, or files.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students should not intentionally interfere with the performance of Green Dot\u2019s network or intentionally damage any Green Dot Technology. Students shall not use hacking tools <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the network, intentionally introduce malicious code or viruses into Green Dot\u2019s network, or create unauthorized wireless networks to access Green Dot\u2019s network. This includes establishing wireless access points, wireless routers, and open networks on personal devices.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students shall not transmit material via any media, including email or internet pages, that is threatening, obscene, disruptive, or sexually explicit, or that could be construed as harassment or disparagement of others based on their race, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion or political beliefs.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students shall not engage in any form of bullying, including but not limited to, Cyberbullying, defined in Section C.10.0. Vandalism includes uploading, downloading, or creating computer viruses and\/or any intentional or malicious attempt to harm or destroy school equipment, electronic information services or the data of another user.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students shall use appropriate language and decorum while using Green Dot Technology.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot will not be responsible for users\u2019 negligent or willful violations of Green Dot Technology policies, including but not limited to the unauthorized costs incurred by users due to such violations.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students shall promptly report any security problem or misuse of Green Dot Technology to the teacher or principal.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before a student is authorized to use Green Dot Technology, the student and their parent\/guardian shall sign and return the Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement in this Manual.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before a student is authorized to check out and use a Green Dot-issued technological device for use at home, the student and their parent\/guardian shall sign and return the Technology Device Check-Out &amp; Home-Use Permission Form.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Safety<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot shall ensure that all School computers with Internet access have a technology protection measure that blocks or filters Internet access to websites that have no educational purpose and\/or contain visual depictions that are obscene, constitute child pornography, or that are harmful to minors. While Green Dot is able to exercise reasonable control over content created and purchased by the School, it has limited control over content accessed via the internet and no filtering system is 100% effective. Neither Green Dot nor its staff shall be responsible for the failure of any technology protection measures, violations of copyright restrictions, or user mistakes or negligence. <\/span><p>\u00a0<\/p><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To reinforce these measures, Green Dot implements rules and procedures designed to restrict students&#8217; access to harmful or inappropriate matter on the Internet and to ensure that students do not engage in unauthorized or unlawful online activities, including but not limited to the safety and security of students and student information when using email, chat rooms, and other forms of direct electronic communication. Staff shall supervise students while they are using online services <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and may have teacher aides, student aides, and volunteers assist in this supervision, as appropriate.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot provides age-appropriate instruction regarding safe and appropriate behavior on social networking sites, chat rooms, and other Internet services. Such instruction shall include, but not be limited to, maintaining the student\u2019s online reputation and ensuring their personal safety by keeping their personal information private, the dangers of posting personal information online, misrepresentation by online predators, how to report inappropriate or offensive content or threats, behaviors that constitute cyberbullying, and how to respond when subjected to cyberbullying. Students are expected to follow safe practices when using school technology.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Elementary School Students<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For elementary school students, Green Dot Technology is intended to be used in a developmentally appropriate manner and under appropriate staff direction or supervision. Elementary students may be given more limited access to online services, communication tools, social networking features, messaging tools, artificial intelligence tools, and independent internet browsing than middle or high school students.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teachers and staff should use Green Dot-approved tools and follow Green Dot procedures when selecting digital resources for elementary students.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When elementary students use Green Dot Technology, staff will make reasonable efforts to provide age-appropriate instruction and supervision regarding safe online behavior, privacy, respectful communication, cyberbullying, and reporting unsafe or inappropriate content.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student use of School computers to access social networking sites is not prohibited, but access is limited to educational purposes only. To the extent possible, Green Dot blocks or limits access to such sites on School computers with Internet access.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><b>Concerning Internet Usage<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reasonable precautions are established to prevent access to pornography, &#8220;hate groups,&#8221; and other non- educational Internet sites. Such precautions include, but are not limited to, an Internet firewall system, which scans and limits access to Internet sites, a monitor scanning software allowing the instructor to view each student monitor from the instructor&#8217;s monitor and instantly blank, lock, or deactivate the student&#8217;s system. Any student intentionally attempting to or bypassing these precautions will be denied computer access. The discipline board or school officials will determine other administrative disciplinary actions. The student and their parents accept responsibility for the student&#8217;s online actions. All other disciplinary policies of the School apply to the use of technological resources.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Concerning General Usage<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The School will report suspected criminal activity to law enforcement authorities. Criminal activity includes, but is not limited to: defamation; obscenity; discrimination; violation of copyrights, trademark and\/or licenses; and\/or violation of other rights arising under the law. The School also reserves the right to discipline students for violations of this policy, up to and including suspension and expulsion.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students are encouraged to remove any &#8220;personal&#8221; information stored on the School\u2019s computers. Generally, the School will delete information left on computers\/networks to better facilitate the use of computers for legitimate School purposes, and the School shall not be liable for any damages resulting from the deletion of personal files or personal electronic information stored on School computers.<\/span><\/p><p><b>Protection Measures<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Green Dot is able to exercise reasonable control over content created and purchased by Green Dot, it has limited control over content accessed via the internet and no filtering system is 100% effective. cause of death among youth and should be taken seriously.\u00a0 To attempt to reduce suicidal behavior and its impact on students and families, Green Dot has developed prevention, intervention, and postvention strategies .<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In compliance with Education Code Section 215, this policy has been developed in consultation with Green Dot and community stakeholders, Green Dot school-employed mental health professionals (e.g., school counselors, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists , nurses), administrators, other school staff members, parents\/guardians\/caregivers, students, local health agencies and professionals, law enforcement, and community organizations in planning, implementing, and evaluating Green Dot\u2019 strategies for suicide prevention and intervention. Green Dot must work in conjunction with local government agencies, community-based organizations, and other community supports to identify additional resources.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To ensure the policies regarding suicide prevention are properly adopted, implemented, and updated, Green Dot shall appoint an individual (or team) to serve as the suicide prevention point of contact for Green Dot. This policy shall be reviewed and revised as indicated, at least annually in conjunction with the previously mentioned community stakeholders.<\/span><\/p><ol><li><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0 <\/span><b>Staff Development<\/b><\/li><\/ol><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot, along with its partners, has carefully reviewed available staff training to ensure it promotes the mental health model of suicide prevention and does not encourage the use of the stress model to explain suicide.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Training shall be provided for all school staff members.\u00a0 It may also be provided, when appropriate, for other adults on campus (such as substitutes and intermittent staff, volunteers, interns, tutors, coaches, and afterschool staff).<\/span><\/p><p><b>Training:<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All suicide prevention trainings shall be offered under the direction of mental health professionals (e.g., school counselors, school psychologists, and school mental health services team members,such as licensed clinical social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists,) , other public entity professionals, such as psychologists or social workers) who have received advanced training specific to suicide. Staff training may be adjusted year-to-year based on previous professional development activities and emerging best practices.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At least annually, all staff shall receive training on the risk factors and warning signs of suicide, suicide prevention, intervention, referral, and postvention.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At a minimum, all staff shall participate in training on the core components of suicide prevention (identification of suicide risk factors and warning signs, prevention, intervention, referral, and postvention) at the beginning of their employment or annually. Core components of the general suicide prevention training shall include:<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suicide risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to talk with a student about thoughts of suicide;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to respond appropriately to the youth who has suicidal thoughts. Such responses shall include constant supervision of any student judged to be at risk for suicide and an immediate referral for a suicide risk assessment;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emphasis on immediately referring (same day) any student who is identified to be at risk of suicide for assessment while staying under constant monitoring by staff member;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emphasis on reducing stigma associated with mental illness and that early prevention and intervention can drastically reduce the risk of suicide;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reviewing the data annually to look for any patterns or trends of the prevalence or occurrence of suicide ideation, attempts, or death. Data from the Social Emotional Learning Screener should also be analyzed to identify school climate deficits and drive program development.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Information regarding groups of students judged by the school, and available research, to be at elevated risk for suicide. While it is expected that school professionals are able to identify suicide risk factors and warning signs, and to prevent the immediate risk of a suicidal behavior, treatment of suicidal ideation is typically beyond the scope of services offered in the school setting. In addition, treatment of the mental health challenges often associated with suicidal thinking typically requires mental health resources beyond what schools are able to provide.<\/span><\/p><ol><li><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0 <\/span><b>Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers Participation and Education<\/b><\/li><\/ol><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parents\/guardians\/caregivers may be included in suicide prevention efforts. At a minimum, schools shall share this suicide prevention policy with parents\/guardians\/caregivers by notifying them where a complete copy of the policy is available.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parents\/guardians\/caregivers should be invited to provide input on the development and implementation of this policy.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All parents\/guardians\/caregivers may have access to suicide prevention training that addresses the following:<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suicide risk factors, warning signs, and protective factors;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to talk with a student about thoughts of suicide;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to respond appropriately to the student who has suicidal thoughts. Such responses shall include constant supervision of any student judged to be at risk for suicide and referral for an immediate suicide risk assessment.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><ol><li><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0 <\/span><b>Student Participation and Education<\/b><\/li><\/ol><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Messaging about suicide has an effect on suicidal thinking and behaviors. Consequently, Green Dot along with its partners has carefully reviewed and will continue to review all materials and resources used in awareness efforts to ensure they align with best practices for safe messaging about suicide.\u00a0 Suicide prevention strategies may include, but not be limited to, efforts to promote a positive school climate that enhances students\u2019 feelings of connectedness with Green Dot and is characterized by caring staff and harmonious interrelationships among students.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot\u2019 instructional and student support program shall promote the healthy mental, emotional, and social development of students including, but not limited to, the development of problem-solving skills, coping skills, and resilience.\u00a0 The instruction shall not use the stress model to explain suicide.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot\u2019 instructional curriculum may include information about suicide prevention, as appropriate or needed, taking into consideration the grade level and age of the students.\u00a0 Under the supervision of an appropriately trained individual acting within the scope of her\/his credential or license, students shall:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Receive developmentally appropriate, student-centered education about the warning signs of mental health challenges and emotional distress;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Receive developmentally appropriate guidance regarding Green Dot\u2019 suicide prevention, intervention, and referral procedures.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0The content of the education may include:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coping strategies for dealing with stress and trauma;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to recognize behaviors (warning signs) and life issues (risk factors) associated with suicide and mental health issues in oneself and others;\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Help-seeking strategies for oneself and others, including how to engage school-based and community resources and refer peers for help;\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emphasis on reducing the stigma associated with mental illness and the fact that early prevention and intervention can drastically reduce the risk of suicide.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student-focused suicide prevention education can be incorporated into classroom curricula (e.g., Advisory, College Readiness, Seminar, physical education).<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot will support the creation and implementation of programs and\/or activities on campus that raise awareness about mental wellness and suicide prevention (e.g., Mental Health Awareness Week, Peer Counseling, Freshman Success, and National Alliance on Mental Illness on Campus High School Clubs).<\/span><\/p><ol><li><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Intervention and Emergency Procedures<\/b><\/li><\/ol><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot designates the following positions to act as the primary and secondary suicide prevention liaisons:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">School Psychologist<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">School Mental Health Services Therapist or School Mental Health Team Member\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">School Counselor<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whenever a staff member suspects or has knowledge of a student\u2019s suicidal intentions, they shall promptly notify the primary designated suicide prevention liaison. If this primary suicide prevention liaison is unavailable, the staff shall promptly notify the secondary suicide prevention liaison.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The suicide prevention liaison shall immediately notify the Head of School or designee. The suicide prevention liaison and\/or Head of School or designee shall then notify the student\u2019s parent\/guardian as soon as possible if appropriate and in the best interest of the student. Determination of notification to parents\/guardians\/caregivers should follow a formal initial assessment to ensure that the student is not endangered by parental notification.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The suicide prevention liaison shall also refer the student to mental health resources at Green Dot or in the community.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When a student is in imminent danger (has access to a gun, is on a rooftop, or in other unsafe conditions), a call shall be made to 911.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When a suicide attempt or threat is reported on campus or at a school-related activity, the suicide prevention liaison shall, at a minimum:<\/span><\/p><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensure the student\u2019s physical safety by one of the following, as appropriate:<\/span><\/li><\/ol><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Securing immediate medical treatment if a suicide attempt has occurred;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Securing law enforcement and\/or another emergency assistance if a suicidal act is being actively threatened;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keeping the student under continuous adult supervision until the parent\/guardian and\/or appropriate support agent or agency can be contacted and has the opportunity to intervene.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remaining calm, keeping in mind the student is overwhelmed, confused, and emotionally distressed;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moving all other students out of the immediate area;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not sending the student away or leaving him\/her alone, even to go to the restroom;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Providing comfort to the student, listening and allowing the student to talk and being comfortable with moments of silence;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Promising privacy and help, but not promising confidentiality.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Document the incident in writing as soon as feasible.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow up with the parent\/guardian and student in a timely manner to provide referrals to appropriate services as needed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After a referral is made, Green Dot shall verify with the parent\/guardian that the follow up treatment has been accessed.\u00a0 Parents\/guardians will be required to provide documentation of care for the student.\u00a0 If parents\/guardians refuse or neglect to access treatment for a student who has been identified to be at risk for suicide or in emotional distress, the suicide prevention liaisons shall meet with the parent to identify barriers to treatment (e.g., cultural stigma, financial issues) and work to rectify the situation and build understanding of care.\u00a0 If follow up care is still not provided, Green Dot may contact the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS.)<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide access to counselors or other appropriate personnel to listen to and support students and staff who are directly or indirectly involved with the incident at Green Dot.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide an opportunity for all who respond to the incident to debrief, evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies used, and make recommendations for future actions.<\/span><\/li><\/ol><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the event a suicide occurs or is attempted on the Green Dot campus, the suicide prevention liaison shall follow the crisis intervention procedures contained in Green Dot\u2019s safety plan. After consultation with the Principal or designee and the student\u2019s parent\/guardian about facts that may be divulged in accordance with the laws governing confidentiality of student record information, the Principal or designee may provide students, parents\/guardians, and staff with information, counseling, and\/or referrals to community agencies as needed.\u00a0 Green Dot staff may receive assistance from Green Dot counselors or other mental health professionals in determining how best to discuss the suicide or attempted suicide with students.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the event a suicide occurs or is attempted off the Green Dot campus and unrelated to school activities, the Principal or designee shall take the following steps to support the student:<\/span><\/p><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contact the parent\/guardian and offer support to the family.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discuss with the family how they would like Green Dot to respond to the attempt while minimizing widespread rumors among teachers, staff, and students. <\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Obtain permission from the parent\/guardian to share information to ensure the facts regarding the crisis are correct.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The suicide prevention liaisons shall identify a media spokesperson if needed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide care and determine appropriate support to affected students.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow Green Dot\u2019s re-entry protocol, including, but not limited to, provide an opportunity to the student and parent\/guardian to participate in a re-entry planning meeting with the Principal or designee, and Green Dot\u2019s mental-health staff.\u00a0 Assessing capacity to integrate back into school may include obtaining a written release from the parent\/guardian to speak with any health care providers; conferring with the student and parent\/guardian about any specific requests on how to handle the situation; informing the student\u2019s teachers about possible days of absences; allowing accommodations for make-up work (being understanding that missed assignments may add stress to the student); appropriate administrators maintaining ongoing contact with the student to monitor the student\u2019s actions and mood; and working with the parent\/guardian to involve the student in an aftercare plan.<\/span><\/li><\/ol><ol><li><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><b>Supporting Students during or after a Mental Health Crisis\u00a0<\/b><\/li><\/ol><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students shall be encouraged through the education program and in Green Dot activities to notify a teacher, Administrator, School Psychologist, School Counselor, School Mental Health Services team member or other adult when they are experiencing thoughts of suicide or when they suspect or have knowledge of another student\u2019s suicidal intentions. \u00a0 Green Dot staff should treat each report seriously, calmly, and with active listening and support.\u00a0 Staff should be non-judgmental to students and discuss with the student, and parent\/guardian, about additional resources to support the student.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you would like to commence mental health services for a student at the school, please contact the School Counselor, School Mental Health Services Team MemberSchool Psychologist, or the main office by calling the school&#8217;s office.<\/span><\/p><ol><li><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0 <\/span><b>Responding After a Suicide Death (Postvention)<\/b><\/li><\/ol><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A death by suicide in the school community (whether by a student or staff member) can have devastating consequences on the school community, including students and staff.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Dot shall follow the below action plan for responding to a suicide death, which incorporates both immediate and long-term steps and objectives:<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The suicide prevention liaison shall:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coordinate with the Principal or designee to:<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Confirm death and cause;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify a staff member to contact deceased\u2019s family (within 24 hours);<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enact the Suicide Postvention Response;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notify all staff members (ideally in-person or via phone, not via e-mail or mass notification).<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coordinate an all-staff meeting, to include:<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notification (if not already conducted) to staff about suicide death;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emotional support and resources available to staff;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notification to students about suicide death and the availability of support services (if this is the protocol that is decided by administration);<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Share information that is relevant and that which you have permission to disclose.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prepare staff to respond to needs of students regarding the following:<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Review of protocols for referring students for support\/assessment;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Talking points for staff to notify students;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resources available to students (on and off campus).<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify students significantly affected by suicide death and other students at risk of imitative behavior;<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify students affected by suicide death but not at risk of imitative behavior;\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Communicate with the larger school community about the suicide death;\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide information regarding funeral arrangements for family and school community (if appropriate);\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Respond to memorial or vigil requests in respectful and non-harmful manner; responses should be handed in a thoughtful way and their impact on other students should be considered; The following guidelines are recommended \u2013 final decisions are to be made collaboratively by the school administrator and Green Dot\u2019s School Coordination of Services Team Mental Health Team:\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Memorials created by students (including flowers, cards, pictures, stuffed animals, or other items):\u00a0 Such memorials should not be disruptive to the daily school routine. Memorials placed in the hallway or heavily trafficked areas could be disruptive and may be relocated.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An established timeframe for the display of memorials should be shared with students and staff, after which any non-perishable and salvageable items should be reviewed for appropriateness and may be offered to the family by the identified school liaison. An example of a timeframe could be to keep the memorial in place until the day of the services or during a natural break in the school\u2019s calendar, whichever comes first.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Permanent memorials, such as trees, benches, or wall plaques are not permitted on school property.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The\u00a0 focus of the school should be to maintain a regular schedule, structure and routine as much as possible given the circumstances, which will benefit the entire student body and staff.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Memorial service or vigil should not be held at the school site, as this would disrupt the regular schedule of a school day.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any fundraising efforts should be led by the student\u2019s family or appointed designee not by a Green Dot employee.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify media spokesperson if needed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Include long-term suicide postvention responses:<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Support siblings, close friends, teachers, and\/or students of
