The competition is an opportunity to motivate, recognize, and celebrate our strong student voices through writing, spoken word, and art.<\/i><\/p>\n\t<h2>Wandering Girl<\/h2>\n\tThe mossy grounds of a sleeping forest gives birth to a wandering girl.<br \/>\nHer skin made of yucca and cotton<br \/>\nHer hair made of casca from elotes browned by the sun<br \/>\nHer eyes made with mud and specks of the stars<br \/>\nHer tongue carrying the dreams of those before her.\n\nThe blood of her ancestors fills her veins<br \/>\nThe sweat of her ancestors fills her tears.<br \/>\nHer legs strengthened from the hills and harsh rocks.<br \/>\nHer hands molded with care and love from those whose hands were cut and beaten.<br \/>\nHer mind filled with dreams of white, red, and blue.\n\nThe tears and struggles of a woman fill the wandering girl.<br \/>\nFilled with the hopes, dreams<br \/>\nAnd desires of getting out of the forest.<br \/>\nHer arms like wings flying away into the limitless sky<br \/>\nHer heart finding peace amongst the blue, white, and red stars.\n\nAs she wanders around the forest, she can feel the steps of those<br \/>\nPaving the way through the rough and sharp rocks and dirt.<br \/>\nAs she wanders around, she comes across an eagle<br \/>\nOne that promises that one day she will fly away from the sleeping forest.<br \/>\nAs she wanders, she carries the dreams and souls of her ancestors<br \/>\nLocked away in her arms where she treads the path carefully to keep them safe.\n\nThrough the tended grounds, sprouted the mind of the wandering girl<br \/>\nShe was molded to be rooted and to fly<br \/>\nRooted in the bountiful and laborious land<br \/>\nFlying from this forest<br \/>\nAway from the tears and cruel rocks that were engraved in the earth below her.<br \/>\nAway from the mossy grounds of an eversleeping forest<br \/>\nSomewhere her souls and loves dreamed of<br \/>\nSomewhere where the stars are red white and blue.<br \/>\nSomewhere she will no longer wander but<br \/>\nStay.\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blog.greendot.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2024\/05\/Bianca-Franco-thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"Bianca-Franco-thumbnail\" title=\"Bianca-Franco-thumbnail\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/>\n\t<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bianca Franco<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>11th Grade, <a href=\"https:\/\/ca.greendot.org\/jefferson\/\">\u00c1nimo Leadership<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Guiding Teacher: Catherine Stine<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Read the piece that won second place from all of our California high schools by Bianca Franco, a student at \u00c1nimo Leadership Charter High School.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":12,"featured_media":12372,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[37,38],"tags":[39,14],"class_list":["post-12099","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-animo-voices","category-series","tag-animo-voices","tag-green-dot-california"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.0 -
