Green Dot Public Schools California To Open 9 of 19 Middle and High Schools for In-Person Instruction for High-Need Students
Some students will return on March 1 and March 8, 2021

February 23, 2021, LOS ANGELES, CA -- Green Dot California will open 7 of their 19 schools for in-person instruction on March 1, 2021, and 2 more will open on March 8, 2021 in service of high-need students who have been most impacted by the pandemic. Students who qualify as high-need are: chronically absent, a student who belongs to 1 or more of the following subgroups (English Learners, students with disabilities, students experiencing homelessness, foster youth), and students who are struggling academically.

“Our hope is that as rates continue to decline, we’ll be able to invite more students back on campus,” says Dr. Cristina de Jesus (CEO & President of Green Dot CA). “We are grateful to our team of teachers and staff who have worked together over the past year to continue serving our students during these difficult times.”

This decision is made in response to recent health and safety guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and in partnership with our community of teachers, students, and parents.

At Oscar de la Hoya Ánimo Charter High School, one school opening for in-person pod instruction, Principal Xochitil Avellan says: “We are all so excited to safely welcome students back to campus.”

Ánimo Florence-Firestone Middle School, Ánimo Westside Charter Middle School, Ánimo Compton Charter School, Ánimo Pat Brown Charter High School, Ánimo City of Champions High School, Ánimo Venice Charter High School, and Ánimo Watts College Preparatory Academy will open March 1. Ánimo Leadership Charter High School and Oscar De La Hoya Ánimo Charter High School will open on March 8.
