Four schools rank in the nation’s top 10%, and two rank as the top school in their district.

Los Angeles, CA (April 23, 2020) – The U.S. News & World Report ranks Nine Green Dot California schools as among the best in the nation. Most notably, Ánimo Leadership is ranked in the top 1% of high schools in the country, as well as the best school in its district. Additionally, Ánimo Inglewood, Ánimo Pat Brown and Oscar De La Hoya Ánimo Charter High School remain in the top 10% of high schools in the nation. Ánimo Watts, Ánimo South Los Angeles, Ánimo Ralph Bunche, Ánimo Jackie Robinson and Ánimo Venice Charter High Schools are among the top 25% of schools.

We are humbled by this recognition. The efforts of our students, teachers, counselors, administrators and support staff have made our high schools among the best in the country,” said Dr. Cristina de Jesus, CEO of Green Dot Public Schools California. “We are inspired every day by the inherent brilliance in each of our students, and it is our goal to ensure all of our students have access to the highest quality educational opportunities possible as we prepare them for college, leadership and life.”

As Green Dot celebrates 20 years of excellence, we look forward to continuing the impact our schools have on the lives of students as they harness their potential and chart a course for lifelong success.

U.S. News revamped its ranking system in 2019 to include six different measurements: college readiness, determined by how many students take and pass Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests; math and reading readiness, based on state testing scores; math and reading performance, based on how the school’s least-advantaged students compare on tests to their peers nationwide; whether those least-advantaged students are outperforming similar students in their state; breath of college readiness, based on the number of students who take and pass multiple AP and IB tests; and graduation rates. US News used data from more than 23,000 public high schools in the country and ranked more than 17,000.
