President and Chief Executive Officer, Green Dot Public Schools National
Marco Petruzzi is the Chief Executive Officer of Green Dot Public Schools National. He originally joined Green Dot as President and COO in December 2006 and was promoted to CEO in October 2008. During Marco's tenure, he has established Green Dot as a leading agent of reform, establishing new high school and middle school transformation models, developing a collaborative labor and management culture, expanding Green Dot towards a national footprint, and creating a world-class school and instructional leadership model as well as an efficient central office to support the schools. Prior to joining Green Dot, Marco founded r3 school solutions, an organization that provided management and administrative services to charter management organizations. Prior to founding r3 school solutions, he was a Partner at Bain & Company, a global management consulting firm. Marco earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering at Columbia University, where he also earned an M.B.A. He has extensive international experience, having lived in six different countries, and is fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. Marco, an active community member, is married and has two children, both attending Green Dot schools.
Dr. Cristina de Jesus
President and Chief Executive Officer, Green Dot Public Schools California
Cristina is the Chief Executive Officer of Green Dot Public Schools California. She originally joined Green Dot as the founding principal at Ánimo Inglewood Charter High School, Green Dot's second school. Four years later, she became Green Dot’s Vice President of Curriculum and Instruction, serving in that role for two years before being named Chief Operating Officer, and eventually President and Chief Academic Officer. She plays an integral role in the collaboration with Green Dot’s Board of Directors and Green Dot’s Teachers’ Union. Prior to joining Green Got, Cristina was an English and History teacher for seven years in the Santa Monica/Malibu School District and earned National Board Certification in Early Adolescent/English Language Arts, an advanced teaching credential awarded to only a small fraction of our nation's teachers. Cristina has earned a Masters of Education, a Masters of Education Administration, and recently earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from UCLA.
Chief Academic Officer
Annette Gonzalez serves as the Chief Academic Officer. She was previously the Vice President of Education for Green Dot Public Schools. Working with the Cluster and Curriculum Directors, she is responsible for oversight and support of Green Dot’s 19 schools, the development of curriculum and assessments, coaching services for teachers, and the organization-wide transition to the Common Core. Previously, she serves as a Cluster Director, prior to which she was the principal of Ánimo Inglewood Charter High School, where she was also an Assistant Principal and the founding ninth grade English teacher. Annette began her career as an English language arts and History teacher at Lincoln Middle School in the Santa Monica- Malibu Unified School District. In addition to teaching sixth grade, Annette was Nationally Board Certified in 2001 in Early Adolescent English Language Arts. Annette earned her undergraduate degrees in English and History from the University of California, Riverside, and her Masters degree in Administrative Education from Cal State Northridge University.
Chief Financial Officer
Sabrina Ayala is the Chief Financial Officer of Green Dot Public Schools and is responsible for managing all financial aspects, including financial strategy, budgets, cash management, accounts receivables, accounts payable, facility financing and purchasing. She brings ten years of Wall Street experience to Green Dot. Prior to joining Green Dot in 2006, Sabrina was an Institutional Equity Trader with Merrill Lynch, a Valuation and Compensation Consultant with Stern Stewart & Co. and an Investment Banker with Kidder, Peabody & Co. All were based in New York City. Her areas of expertise include natural resources, cyclical chemical industries, consumer products, REITS and arbitrage. Sabrina, an Eli Lilly Scholar, received her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management in 2002 with majors in Finance and Entrepreneurship. Her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, with minors in Accounting and Sports Management, is from Northern Illinois University, where she graduated with honors, cum laude and Outstanding Woman Graduate of the Year.
Chief Operating Officer
Damien White is the Chief Operating Officer of Green Dot Public Schools and is responsible for human resources, facilities, and operations. Prior to joining Green Dot, Damien was the Managing Director of Operations at KIPP LA Schools and the Director of Business Development at the Alliance College Ready Public Schools where he completed the Broad Residency program. Before joining the Broad Residency, Damien was an engineer with General Motors and held strategy and marketing positions with Toyota Motor Sales. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, an MBA from the University of Southern California and a Master of Education in Education Leadership from the Broad Residency in Urban Education.
Dr. Kevin Keelen
Chief Information Officer
Dr. Kevin Keelen is Green Dot’s Chief Information Officer, overseeing Information Technology, Knowledge Management, and a variety of other projects and initiatives, including Green Dot’s technology modernization and Common Core readiness. Kevin came to Green Dot in 2009 as the Director of Knowledge Management. In 2011, he stepped into the role of Vice President of Employee Solutions, overseeing Human Resources, Security, and other operational functions. Before joining Green Dot, Kevin was the Director of Curriculum for Revolution Prep. During his time at Revolution Prep, he wrote and edited seven books and six online courses, including CAHSEE Fundamentals,ACT Online, and Algebra Readiness. Kevin has also worked in higher education in student affairs and as an adjunct faculty member. Kevin earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from UCLA in 2009 with the publication of Educational Plans in Achieving Student Transfer Goals.
Chief Talent Officer
Kelly Hurley currently serves as the Chief Talent Officer. He was previously the Vice President of Human Capital at Green Dot Public Schools. In this position, he oversees employee recruitment, personnel issues of certificated, classified and home office employees as well as labor negotiations. Prior to this role, he served as the cluster director (area superintendent) overseeing the transformation of Locke High School from April 2007 until June 2011. His role as a cluster director was to provide bi-weekly coaching and monthly professional development to principals and assistant principals as well as to ensure the success of each of the eight small high schools in the Locke transformation. Before joining Green Dot, Kelly began his educational career in the Long Beach Unified School District as a teacher in the fall of 1985. After serving twelve years as a teacher, counselor, and assistant principal, he was promoted to principal in the fall of 1997. During his tenure as a middle and high school principal, he was asked to take over two highly toxic schools to renew the culture and climate at both sites.
Dr. Megan Quaile
Chief Growth Officer
Megan Quaile serves as the Chief Growth Officer at Green Dot Public Schools. She has also served as an area superintendent and the Vice President of Education during her six-year tenure. Before joining Green Dot, Quaile worked as Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Civitas Schools, the Chicago-based charter management organization that served 2200 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12. Megan has also served as a teacher, coach and school principal. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Quaile spent her first years after college in corporate positions before choosing education. She holds a doctorate in education from the University of Southern California.
Vice President of Advancement
Chad Soleo serves as the Vice President of Advancement at Green Dot Public Schools. He has also served as a Cluster Director, prior to which he was the founding principal of Ánimo Pat Brown Charter High School, and an assistant principal at Locke. Ánimo Pat Brown became a California Distinguished High School under his leadership. Chad began his career as an English language arts teacher at Alain Leroy Locke High School through Teach for America. At Locke, Chad ran a college preparatory program that lead to a significant increase in college awareness and graduation rates, while pursuing his graduate degree in Secondary Education at Loyola Marymount University. Chad has also taught within the charter school leadership cohort for Loyola Marymount University’s School of Education administrative credentialing program, and has lead professional development in Los Angeles Unified School District, within the Southern California AVID community, and within the Teach for America organization. Chad earned his undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Arizona.
Vice President of Human Resources
Shelby Boagni joined Green Dot Public Schools as Vice President of Human Resources. Shelby is an accomplished HR leader with more than 25 years of progressive Human Resources experience. She has held executive level positions within industry leading companies including; The International House of Pancakes, LLC., The Home Depot, Mars, Inc., and McDonald’s Corporation. Most Recently, Boagni was the Chief Human Resources Officer for Essia Health.
In addition to Shelby’s deep and broad Human Resources experience, she also has a strong commitment to supporting and giving back to her community. As such, she spends a great deal of her personal time working with non-profit, philanthropic organizations raising funds to send children to college. Shelby graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Howard University, and holds a Senior Certified Professional Certificate from the Society of Human Resource Management.
Vice President of Strategic Planning
Nithya Rajan serves as the Vice President of Strategic Planning at Green Dot Public Schools. In her role she assesses organizational growth opportunities, collaboratively designs the organizational strategic plan and facilitates implementation of this strategy across departments at Green Dot. Before joining Green Dot, Nithya served as the Interim Executive Director at the College-Ready Promise (one of the four Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Teacher Effectiveness and College-Readiness Intensive Partnership Sites) facilitating collaboration across four charter management organizations in Los Angeles as they jointly designed a multi-measure teacher evaluation system. Prior to entering education via the Broad Residency, Nithya worked as a management consultant at Booz & Company in Chicago. Earlier in her career, Nithya worked as a mergers and acquisitions analyst at Wasserstein Perella and a Manager of Advertising Operations at internet advertising company WhenU.com. Nithya received her BA from Dartmouth College in Economics and Spanish Literature and her MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Executive Director, Green Dot Public Schools Washington
As a resident of Southeast Seattle and former principal and teacher, Bree believes deeply in working with families and community to create schools that will realize their hopes and dreams for students. Most recently, Bree served as the Director of the Leadership Center at WA Charters, helping school leaders design new schools for Washington students. She also served as the Executive Director of Schools for Seattle Public Schools, overseeing its Southeast region of schools, and was a public charter school principal in post-Katrina New Orleans.
Bree has researched charter schools nationally with the University of Washington’s Center on Reinventing Public Education and started her career in education as a high school math teacher. Having worked in a variety of traditional and public charter schools where academically underserved students successfully find a path to college and beyond, she is excited to see what our students make possible in Washington State. When not working Bree loves live music, the outdoors, and a good book by the fire.
Leilani currently serves as a Cluster Director for four high schools and two middle schools in the Lennox, Boyle Heights, and South Los Angeles communities. She provides coaching, supervision and professional development to administrators at all six schools. Leilani joined Green Dot in 2002 as a teacher at Ánimo Inglewood Charter High School. She then became the Assistant Principal at Ánimo Inglewood in 2006, and the Principal in 2008. After five outstanding years serving as the leader of an urban charter high school, Leilani was promoted to Cluster Director in 2013. Leilani earned her Masters of Education from Loyola Marymount University in 2005 and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2002.
Dr. Gordon Gibbings
Dr. Gordon Gibbings is a Cluster Director currently coaching the principals of six Green Dot charter schools serving the Los Angeles communities of Venice, South Central and Boyle Heights. Prior to becoming a Cluster Director at Green Dot, Gordon served as the Principal of Ánimo South Los Angeles Charter High School (ASLA). During his tenure as principal, ASLA earned a maximum accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and was awarded by U.S. News and World Report with a prestigious Silver Medal for being a high-performing, college-preparatory high school. During his time as the principal of ASLA, Gordon also served as a Green Dot Mentor Principal for new school principals. Before joining Green Dot Public Schools, Gordon served as an assistant principal and a Testing and Intervention Coordinator for David Starr Jordan High School in Long Beach California. Gordon began his teaching career as a fourth and fifth grade teacher at Florence Bixby Elementary School in Long Beach, California. During his first two years of teaching he was a member of Teach For America. Gordon earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, his Masters from the University of California at Berkeley, and his Doctorate from the University of Southern California.
As Cluster Director, Michelle Green coaches and supports six principals and admin teams at three high schools and three middle schools in the Venice, Westchester, East Los Angeles, and South Central Los Angeles communities. Prior to joining Green Dot, Michelle led a transformation effort as principal of Benton Middle Magnet School of Visual and Performing Arts in La Mirada, California, resulting in the highest academic gains and the greatest enrollment increase across the district. Her love for students, and her determination to make a difference stems from her teaching career, having taught and served as principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Michelle has worked in K-12 education in California and Texas, and has taught at the university level in the People’s Republic of China. She has also served as a Curriculum Coordinator, and Language Arts Consultant, and participated in the founding of both a private and a public school. Michelle received her degrees from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, and the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
Damon Hands is a Cluster Director supporting four high schools and two middle schools. Damon is deeply committed to Green Dot’s mission to prepare all students for college, leadership and life and serving the communities of greatest need in Los Angeles. Damon has been a part of Green Dot Public Schools since 2009. He began his service with Green Dot as an Administrator in Residence. In 2010 he served as founding principal of Ánimo Jefferson Charter Middle School. In 2013 he served as the principal of the 9th Grade Academy at Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy. Prior to working in Green Dot, Damon was an assistant principal at Ball Junior High School in Anaheim, CA. He was a teacher at schools in Anaheim, Long Beach, Cali Colombia, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia prior to his career as an administrator. Damon holds a BA in English and Government from New Mexico State University and MA in Education from National University. He grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico and lives in Long Beach with his wife Steffie and son Jake.
